1-30-11, Day 147

To Landlocked:
With the help of Google,  I found out that these caps are called "Forage Caps."  During the Civil War soldiers carried the food they foraged in the forest in them.  These photos were taken at a military reinactment at Ft. Point at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, stumbled upon while walking at Crissy Field yesterday.  The attraction escapes me but these people were very excited about keeping history alive in this way.  We had an amazing conversation with a more mature participant about gun control.

From Landlocked:
The boy solved this himself.

To JP:
Golden Gate Bridge from Crissy Field
From JP:
Sorry this is not toooo creative. Work has been kicking my butt! What this is, is a way for me to keep my employees from carrying to many keys. If they do, they get the baby caribeaneer. It is roughly the size of a quarter! Makes me laugh when I get to use it!

1-26-11, Day 143

To Dan:
NAELC
Thought I was going to have to cash in my IRA to take care of dental work but not so much needs to be done.   Praise be to my choppers and clod hoppers?
From Dan:

I have been making Dante's dog food for over a year now.  I was once in favor of the raw meat diet, but not really agreeing with the whole meat thing I decided to try to make him and Bonnie into vegetarians.  So, now in their dog food I give them: cooked oatmeal, about an oz. of wheatgrass, a bunch of sunflower sprouts, a scoop of hemp protein, a tablespoon of chia seed, some egg shell/kelp/barley green/sea algae supplement that i make, and if we have eggs I will throw in one or two raw ones.  I like to change up the meal a few times a week by adding in the mush left over from a green juice or by adding different sprouts that we have going.  All the ingredients are organic.  Some are home grown.  It seems that Dante likes it as much as his meat diet since he can hardly contain himself when I make the food morning and night.  With the change over, or at least by adding the wheatgrass Dante has a noticeable amount of more energy.  He also has some bad back legs, but now he favors them less and just seems all around more healthy.  It takes some time each morning and night, but it makes me feel good to prepare a nice meal for my best friend.

1-25-11, Day 142

To Gloria:
Houses on my street.
From Gloria:

Today, on my way to my mom's I stopped at the store and bought this for  .01 cent. It was a promotion that sort of reminded me of green stamps. You got stamps everytime you shopped, then you could buy the pots for one cent plus the stamps.

To Judy:

From Judy:

Is White a Color? I walk out my door and see nothing but white.
Snow in the yard, Snow on the car, Snow on the street.
Snow falling from the sky, day and night
Snow hanging from the trees, Snow on the garbage cans
Snow on the roof.
I am tasting snow, breathing snow, drowning in snow.
This snow has got to go………!!!!
I can see nothing but white…is it a color???

Today at work I was a bit bored so I decided to customize my phone user interface a bit. Each word had a program it opens. Weather for weather app, location for google maps, time for alarm clock, and date for calendar! The things I do when bored. Hope things are great there in the bay.

1-21-11, Day 138

To Mandy:
Great Horned Owl II
ink, colored pencil, watercolor
From Mandy:
Who Farted?
I will start by saying that last night I was sitting at a jack in the box waiting for my drink order when I received your email. I saw the picture and started laughing, I showed it to my friend and she started laughing as well. Let me rewind to 5 years ago. I had a hoodie that had an owl on it, it was cute and whatnot but I wasn't obsessed with owls or anything. An old friend of mine miss-interpreted this as - Mandy REALLY REALLY LIKES OWLS so anything I get her for the rest of her life has to be owled themed. So there started years of tacky owl birthday cards, toys, pictures, socks, everything. A couple months ago I mentioned this to my coworker and she thought it would be fun to continue the tradition. Just yesterday she gifted me with a horrible tacky shirt and hat of an owl. Then, 5 hours later you sent me that picture. We must be on the same wave length.
This is me doing my best cindy sherman interpretation of my new owl shirt and hat.

1-11-11, Day 128

To Gloria:
After
From Gloria:
We are also having crazy weather. Its been cold at night, sometimes during the day..and sometimes downright VERY warm. Of course, I miss my winters..and I'm not complaining. Its summer I can't take. Besides, when I say cold I mean that living in California we have wimped out, and become overly sensitive to the cold.
Here is the finished puzzle. It was a bear! (I think 3.000 pieces? -not sure, we lost the box-). I have loved puzzles since I was a child and it had been years since I had worked on one. I used to always do at least one every year after Christmas.
I have another ready to start :)

Despite the cold, Impatiens pushing up in the dirt.
